Our Journey with Leading Brands

Milestones

Established in 1983 as Automotive Manufacturers Malaysia Sdn. Bhd, HICOM Automotive has grown into a trusted multi-brand automotive manufacturing partner. Our journey began with PROTON and ISUZU, laying a strong foundation in Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) manufacturing and shaping Malaysia’s automotive ambitions.

Collaborations with Citroën, Suzuki, KIA, NAZA, TATA and SsangYong expanded our capabilities across passenger and commercial vehicles. The commencement of Mercedes-Benz production in 2007 and Volkswagen in 2011 marked our entry into the premium segment, demonstrating the confidence global brands place in our people and processes.

Embracing electrification from 2014, we progressed from Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEV) to Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) and Mild Hybrid (MHEV) technologies. In 2023, we celebrated a major milestone with the production of our first Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV), the Mercedes-Benz EQS. The commencement of Audi production in 2025 introduced MHEV technology, further cementing our role as a strategic partner for premium global brands.

Today, HICOM Automotive continues to advance internal ICE, HEV, PHEV, MHEV, and BEV capabilities, driving innovation, trust and ambition as we shape the future of sustainable mobility.
